Youth film festival held in Preston County for National Geographic competition
The Mountain Stewardship and Outdoor Leadership (SOL) School hosted a film festival at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground in Bruceton Mills Friday evening to celebrate submissions by some of its students to the National Geographic Slingshot Challenge.

The Go! Challenge Survey is now accepting submissions for the week of April 1-7, 2024. Participants can submit their weekly activity data through the submission form on the Garrett County Apps website. The deadline for submission is April 10, 2024.
Local GC In Motion Series Invites Applications for Summer Fitness Programs
The GC In Motion Series team is accepting applications for their summer programs. This initiative, funded by a 2021 CareFirst grant, aims to increase access to physical fitness and promote well-being. They are particularly interested in fitness and nutrition-related events and projects running from June to August.
Kingwood Library Hosts 2024 Tournament of Books Championship: Local Team Emerges Victorious
The 2024 Tournament of Books Championship Game was held at the Kingwood Branch Library on March 23. This literacy event for teenagers aims to promote reading among high school students. Teams named Library Agents, Book Brigades, and Probably Not Your Average Readers competed for the title. Each team, consisting of four or five students, had been preparing since December 2023 by reading a 12-book list selected by the Harris County Public Library (HCPL) Literacy staff. The chosen books featured diverse characters and themes, relevant topics, originality, and strong plots.

Harvest Hub to Launch Local Meal Service Supporting Our Farmers and Promoting Healthy Eating
The Harvest Hub, a community-supported agriculture (CSA) initiative, plans to launch a meal service this summer. The service will offer healthy, locally sourced meals for four adults, including meat, eggs, produce, fresh herbs, and berries from the Harvest Hub CSA. This initiative is based on feedback from community members and aims to support local farmers.
Maryland angler catches state record fallfish
BALTIMORE, MD—A Maryland man has set a new state fishing record. Blake Cronk, of Westernport (Allegany County), has been recognized by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as a new state record holder for fallfish – Semotilus corporalis — in the state’s nontidal division.
Local WIC Nutritionist Shares More Heart-Healthy Recipes
WIC Nutritionist, Dierdre Shue, has shared more recipes that follow the US Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate program and the American Heart Association's recommendations. These recipes encourage eating four to five servings of fruits and vegetables daily, promoting eating five servings a day.
