The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago/Romeoville has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Lake, Northern Cook, and Central Cook counties in Illinois, and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. This statement remains in effect until 4 AM CDT Sunday, with waves expected to reach 3 to 6 feet along Lake Michigan. The high wave action and dangerous currents create life-threatening swimming conditions, particularly for inexperienced swimmers. Residents and visitors are advised to stay out of the water and avoid piers, jetties, breakwalls, and other shoreline structures.
