The Chamber Minute: From the Desk of Rosey Thomas
In for another Chamber minute, it's Rosey. May has arrived, and that means most of us will be getting our ballots this week, Some important things are on the ballot this year, The Chamber is supporting the Public Safety Levy and hopes the community will too. We NEED a SAFE place to call our own and we NEED a solid Public Safety system, now more than ever. Crime is on the rise and we know we cannot leave things as they currently are. If Coos County doesn’t pass the jail levy then the consequences will cause budget cuts all across...

Letter: Vote for Main to keep experience on commission
Coos County voters should re-elect Commissioner Robert “Bob” Main at the May election. He’s been a Coos County commissioner for more than 15 years and is seeking re-election to his fifth four-year term. Translation: Bob Main has more experience running county programs than his two challengers put together. Main has worked for Coos County since 1978 and was elected county assessor in 2000, a job he held until being elected commissioner in 2008. He’s been involved with the Oregon Coastal Zone Management Association, the Southern...

Drew Farmer rally draws crowd in Coos Bay
A crowd of sign-wielding Coos County residents took up station at the Coos Bay Boardwalk on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, to rally for Coos County Commissioner candidate Drew Farmer. The 38-year-old Navy veteran drew a crowd of roughly 50 despite blustery conditions. “It’s awesome to see this much support. I’ve had people now from both parties reach out to me, and I’ve worked across the aisles on items. So it’s good to see support across the board, and very good to see this much support...
Letter: Commissioners need more accountability
I agree with the concerns expressed in Sharon Ramirez’s World letter to the editor dated March 19, but do not agree with her intention to vote against the Coos County Public Safety measure on the November ballot. I understand and share her concerns about the Coos County Commissioner Rod Taylor, who participated in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. It may, however, be “cutting off the nose to spite the face” to vote against this safety measure. ...
DeSpain leads Ryan Courser for Republican nomination in Oregon's 4th District
Monique DeSpain and her team were projecting a victory late Tuesday after initial vote totals showed her up significantly in her race against Amy Ryan Courser for the Republican nomination for Oregon's 4th Congressional District. Letter: Coos County needs a change
Looking back over the last 10 years, much in our community has changed. It is time for another change. I will be voting for Drew Farmer. Bob Main has served this community well, but it is time to pass the torch. Too many years in one place can stale the effectiveness of anything including Coos Bay. We need new ideas, new faces, new vision. Vote for Drew. Valerie Sill Coos Bay

Coquille has been attending this event since it started and thirteen made the qualification of competing in fifteen nationally rated games, a requirement...
Letter: Public Safety Levy has support of the Bay Area Chamber
As the Executive Director of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce representing almost 500 businesses in Coos Bay, North Bend, and Charleston. We urge you to vote Yes on Ballot Measure 6-213 Public Safety Levy. It’s no secret that Coos County has a problem with crime, and our accountability system is seriously underfunded. The Coos County Jail is only operating 1/3 of the jail beds available. Additionally, the DA’s Office is understaffed by two deputy district attorney positions leading to a backlog of over 1400...
