Sunshine Sounds: Rounding up the 2024 summer concerts
Does Toledo have too much country music? Promoter Hunter Brucks of HB Concerts thinks so. That’s why when he was booking his Promenade Park acts for the 2024 summer season, he didn’t book a single country act, satisfied that Toledo had enough country acts represented. “Toledo is really oversaturated with country music so we made a really concentrated effort on being diverse with our shows. We’re doing stuff that’s never been down at Promenade Park,” said Brucks. Of the seven acts booked for the riverfront this summer, none of them are country music.

Bed bug prompts temporary closure of county offices at One Government Center

Hundreds turn out for Sylvania Memorial Day ceremonies, parade
Sylvania joined communities nationwide on Monday to honor military members who died in service to their country. Hundreds paid their respects during a ceremony at Toledo Memorial Park, where thousands of flags were placed to honor Toledo-area veterans, followed by a parade and a second service. Sylvania Mayor Craig Stough welcomed guests to the Memorial Day ceremony. “Today, we join similar services and ceremonies just like this one all over America. Some larger, some smaller. At Arlington National Cemetery, at Gettysburg. At Omaha Beach. At Pearl Harbor,” Mr. Stough said. “But mostly in communities just like ours, all heartfelt in their thanks for the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and women, those from wars past and those serving in harm’s way today.”

Both parties hope to resolve Block Communications lawsuit quickly
Attorneys for both sides of the Block Communications, Inc. lawsuit were in agreement on one item in court Friday — they want to get the matter wrapped up as quickly as possible. “We don’t want to spend money on litigation,” Robert S. Faxon, an attorney for BCI, told visiting Judge Jonathan Hein in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. “You see all the lawyers in the room. We want to spend it on the company.” On May 8, Allan Block filed a motion seeking a preliminary injunction to prevent BCI, his brother John Robinson Block, and other members of the family from potentially selling the business. Block Communications is the parent company of The Blade and Buckeye Broadband, among other companies. In the lawsuit, Allan Block wanted to be placed on the committee exploring the possible sale of the company, to stop the committee from exploring the possible sale of the business until he was placed on the committee, and to prevent corporate funds from being spent by the committee until he was made a member of the committee.
