Register to vote and learn about key candidate races running in Ohio races: Valley Views
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- Temple Emanu El is holding a day of voter registration and voter involvement Sunday, Sept. 22 in Cleveland and in Orange Village. Beginning at 11 a.m. in partnership with Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, the temple will participate in the church’s worship service. At 12:30 p.m. they will host a program to register voters and create a voting plan, which includes arranging for a ride to the polls. Participants there will be entered in a raffle for tickets to a Cavs game.
Bronze for Perrysburg’s Blaze at U20 world wrestling championships
PONTEVEDRA, Spain — Perrysburg’s Marcus Blaze will return home from overseas with another medal. The 2023 U17 world champion won a bronze medal in his debut at the U20 World Championships Sunday after beating Tolga Ozbek of Turkey 5-0 in the 61-kilogram bronze medal match. After suffering his first-ever international loss to eventual champion Masanosuke Ono of Japan on Saturday, Blaze came back to dominate against Ozbek. Maumee mellows out to free street concert
After a summer of contentious and divisive sewer politics, Maumee could certainly use some sweet harmony. Girl Named Tom is happy to oblige. The powerhouse vocal trio of Liechty siblings — Bekah, Joshua, and Caleb — from Pettisville, Ohio, was booked to perform at a free concert in downtown Maumee on Saturday evening. The city closed Conant Street to automobiles for the occasion, with Girl Named Tom and the opening act, Chloe & the Steel Strings, performing from a stage set up near the intersection of Dudley Street. A mellow audience of several hundred seemed to be in good spirits.
BGSU football notebook: TE Fannin puts up career game on big stage
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Another week, another huge performance from Harold Fannin, Jr. This time, the Bowling Green State University standout tight end saved his best for one of the biggest stages of his college career. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior set career highs with 11 receptions and 137 yards in the Falcons’ narrow 34-27 loss at No. 8 Penn State in front of more than 103,000 fans. Fannin also hauled in a 6-yard touchdown reception from Connor Bazelak on the Falcons’ first possession to end the Nittany Lions’ stretch of 28 straight games without allowing an opening-drive touchdown, which was the longest active streak in the nation. “Harold Fannin, at times, looked like the best player out there,” BGSU football coach Scot Loeffler said. “He really did.”
