Wayne County Anglers' Delight: Prime Fishing Conditions in Lake Ontario and Local Bays
Fishing conditions in Wayne County, particularly in Lake Ontario, are currently very good. At the recent LOC Spring awards held at Riley’s Bar & Grill, it was mentioned that although most king salmon were caught near Niagara, Wayne County has seen increased activity in this species. Anglers report success in waters 200 to 300 feet deep, with the best fishing at depths of 35 to 60 feet. Spoons and flasher flies are the most effective lures, catching salmon weighing between 10 to 20 pounds.
Upcoming OCWA Project to Enhance Water Quality and Fire Safety in Ontario County
The Ontario County Water Authority (OCWA) is starting a project in 2024 to upgrade old cast iron water mains in the region. This effort will tackle the common problem of discolored water and enhance fire flow capacity, which has been affected by the aging infrastructure.
