Petoskey builder charged with contractor fraud
PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY — A Petoskey builder has been charged with contractor fraud, Michigan State Police said Tuesday. A trooper from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post was investigating a builder’s fraud complaint in July 2024 when another victim was identified, troopers said. The victim paid the contractor, 33-year-old Carter Chou Bassett from Petoskey, $76,000 to remodel their home. Bassett never obtained permits or began work on the home, troopers said. A report was turned over to the Presque Isle Prosecutor’s Office, and an arrest warrant was issued on Sept. 6.
Vape pen causes fire inside airplane traveling to Traverse City
TRAVERSE CITY — Cherry Capital Airport officials said a vape pen caused a fire on board a plane headed to Traverse City on Friday. On Friday around 10:10 p.m., the airport was notified that United Flight 1531 - a Boeing 737-700 traveling from Chicago to Traverse City - was experiencing an inflight fire inside the passenger cabin.
