The Gillespie High School softball team earned a win against North Mac on Wednesday, May 1, with a final score of 10 to 0. Emma Gipson earned yet another win in the circle for Gillespie. Gipson gave up two hits and no runs, striking out seven over six innings of play. Kiers took the loss for North Mac, surrendering nine runs on eight hits.

Carlinville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carrollton Hawks. Carlinville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Carrollton apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Riverton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 21-1 to the North Mac Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Riverton of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Vandalia senior Aydan Jones accounted for four of the Vandals eight hits on Tuesday as they pulled off a 7-3 win in 12 innings over Hillsboro in South Central Conference action. The Vandals were able to grab a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Hillsboro scored their first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third and take the 2-1 lead but Vandalia put another run across in the top of the fourth and tied things up at 2-2. After Hillsboro scored in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead 3-2, it would hold through a scoreless sixth inning. A Vandals run in the top of the seventh tied things up and the game would go into extra innings after the Hiltoppers were held scoreless in the bottom of the seventh. Four scoreless innings would go by to send the game to the 12th inning, The Vandals leadoff batter, Qwentyn Stombaugh was hit by a pitch and after the Vandals would get their first out of the inning, Andrew Kelly would be hit by a pitch as well to put two on base. Jones would single to score a pair of runs and Kohnor Depew would ripple to centerfield to score Jones for a 6-3 lead that would then be capped off with Andrew Casey reaching base on an error that allowed Depew to score for a 7-3 Vandals lead. Hillsboro was held scoreless by the Vandals in the bottom of the seventh as they closed out the win. Vandalia is now 11-13 on the season and is 4-4 in SCC play. The Vandals will be at Litchfield on Thursday.

Vandalia softball suffered a 10-2 loss at Hillsboro in South Central Conference action on Tuesday. After trailing just 1-0, the Vandals would score a run as a bunt single by Liah Hoyle would lead to a Hillsboro error that allowed Ollie Whitehead to score from second base and tie the game up at 1-1. Hillsboro responded in the bottom of the fourth with two runs to regain the lead, 3-1, and then extended the lead to 4-1. The Hiltoppers would break the game open with a 6-run bottom of the sixth inning for a 10-1 lead over Vandalia. Down to their final three outs, the Lady Vandals put one more run on the board with a RBI single by Mady McCall scoring Madison Lupton to make it 10-2 before a line out would end the game. Vandalia drops to 0-20 on the season and will play at Litchfield on Thursday.

The Gillespie Miners take a loss against Southwestern on Saturday, April 27, with a final score of 7 to 3. Dawson Lancaster took the loss on the mound for Gillespie. Lancaster put in three and one-thirds innings of work, giving up six runs on six hits and pocketing three strikeouts. Luke Shuckenbrock was the starting pitcher for the Miners. Shuckenbrock gave up one hit and no runs through two innings. Logan Keith earned the win for Southwester. Keith allowed only two hits and one run through four innings of play.

Carlinville lost against Sacred Heart-Griffin back in June of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Carlinville Cavaliers fell just short of the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones by a score of 4-3. Carlinville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit....

Routt Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came out on top against the Pawnee Indians by a score of 8-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Routt Catholic also won the last time the pair played back in March.
