BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - On Wednesday, the NCAA unveiled an extensive list of sites for upcoming national championship events, and three of our local schools earned hosting rights. All three of these events are scheduled to happen in 2027, starting with the skiing championships. UVM will host that event at Stowe and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, the first time the Cats will get that honor since 2019, when Vermont finished second. While Stowe has hosted six times previously, this will be the first time Craftsbury has hosted the Nordic side of things. This event alternates East-West every year, and this coming Winter, Dartmouth will host as previously announced. The D-III Women’s Hockey Championships that same month are headed to the Ronnie B in Plattsburgh! That event has typcially been hosted by the highest seeded team remaining once the semifinals come around, but the NCAA is introducing pre-determined sites every other year like they have on the men’s side. Stafford Arena is no stranger to hosting the Women’s D-III Frozen Four: the Cardinals have previously served as host for this event six times, winning the national title five of those six years And much like Plattsburgh women’s hockey, when you win umpteen national titles in a short period of time, it’s gonna help your bid to host future championships. Middlebury has earned the right to host the 2027 D-III Field Hockey Final Four at Kohn Field. It’ll be the first time the panthers have ever had that honor and the first time that event has ever been played in the state of Vermont. Midd is looking to add to its streak of six straight national titles and seven of the last eight this Fall. They’re currently ranked #1 in the country and riding a 39-game win streak.
