The Crawford County R-1 Board of Education is excited to announce that Mr. Cole Byassee has been selected to serve as Bourbon’s next Superintendent of Schools beginning July 1, 2023. Mr. Byassee looks forward to meeting with the district’s administrative team and staff in the coming weeks and to working closely with the current Superintendent, Dr. Kyle Gibbs, over the next four months in order to ensure a smooth transition into his new role.

Bourbon High School Students Michael Zuzack (left) and Ryan Cain competed on January 26 in the High School Welding Competition at Missouri Welding Institute (MWI) in Nevada, Mo., where students from all over the United States come to compete. Zusack finished fifth out of 288 contestants and received a limited edition MWI competition jacket and $1,000 scholarship. Cain earned a Pipeliner welding hood and a trophy.

The search for a new superintendent for the Steelville School District is underway and the Board of Education is seeking patron and staff input in the selection process. An online survey which lists leadership qualities of a superintendent is now available where both community and staff members can indicate the most desired leadership qualities they believe the new superintendent should have for the local district. The results of this survey will be used by the school board and consultants in seeking and screening applicants as well as for the development of interview content.

The Cuba High School varsity girls have been seeded fourth for the upcoming Fourth Annual First State Community Bank Girls Christmas Tournament in Kingston. There are 12 teams in the tourney so Cuba has a first-round bye. The Lady Wildcats will not play until noon on December 28.
