Here's how statewide reading reform is impacting Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools
WISCONSIN RAPIDS − Last summer, the Wisconsin State Legislature and Gov. Tony Evers reached a compromise on sweeping literacy reform for Wisconsin students. The reform, known as The Right to Read Act or 2023 Wisconsin Act 20, requires “science-based early reading instruction in both universal and intervention settings” and specifically prohibits reading instruction using “three-cueing instruction,” according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website.
Rasmussen selected to lead Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools as next superintendent
WISCONSIN RAPIDS − The current principal of Lincoln High School has been selected to replace Craig Broeren as the next superintendent of Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools. Music concert offerings at all three UW-Stevens Point campuses in May
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host a variety of music concerts on all three campuses in Stevens Point, Marshfield and Wausau this May. UW-Stevens Point concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Noel Fine Arts Center Michelsen Hall, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. Tickets are $17 for the general public, $15 for seniors (62+), $10 for youths (younger than 18) and UWSP employees. UW-Stevens Point students can attend free of charge. Events are ticketed unless noted otherwise. Tickets are available for purchase online, at the Information and Tickets desk in the Dreyfus University Center or by calling 715-346-4100.
Mid-State Technical College’s Dylan Saylor Appointed as 2024 WTCS Student Ambassador
Dylan Saylor, a student at Mid-State Technical College, has been appointed the 2024 Student Ambassador for the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). He received this title at an event on April 18 in Wisconsin Dells, which included a dinner and team-building activities. Saylor, a Criminal Justice-Studies student, expressed his gratitude and excitement about representing Mid-State and promoting technical education in Wisconsin.
UW-Stevens Point faculty, staff, honored for excellence
Several faculty and staff members at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been recognized for excellence within their professional fields. · Professor Rebecca Stephens, chairwoman of the English Department, won the 2024 University of Wisconsin Board of Regents’ Teaching Excellence Award. She has taught at UWSP since 1998 and has been chairperson since 2018. She also helms an English education program that has a 100 percent placement rate and five alums that were named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English. She teaches a Technologies for English Education course and will soon serve history and world languages teaching majors. Stephens also led an effort to create the Women’s and Gender Studies program and in 2015, she presented teaching methods at the National Women’s Studies Association Conference.
