Lanes of I-16 westbound closed, traffic backed up as emergency crews respond to incident
Update 10/15/24 5:00 am - all lanes are open. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies have temporarily closed one lane of I-16 westbound from exit 116 (Hwy. 301 South) to exit 111 (Pulaski Excelsior Road) on Monday, October 14, 2024. They are also intermediately closing both westbound lane while they are investigating an incident in the area. Motorists traveling through this area are advised by GSP to find alternative routes and to avoid the area if possible. As of 10:30 p.m., Grice Connect has received reports that traffic is backed up for over two miles on the westbound side of I-16. There is a significant police, fire, and EMS presence at the scene. This is an active scene and delays can be expected throughout the night. Bulloch County EMS and Bulloch County Fire responded around 9:00 p.m. to treat a critically injured victim, though the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. A North Jersey man was identified as the pilot who died in a plane that crashed in Savannah on Sunday night, according to police.
