Postseason soccer overview
ELIZABETHTOWN – The East Bladen Lady Eagles drew the number-six seed in the NCHSAA 1A State Playoffs for the East Region and they’ll take on the 27th-seeded Cape Hatteras Hurricanes on Monday. The Lady Eagles will go into the playoffs with a potent attack at 63 goals and a stout defense that’s only allowed 12 goals throughout the regular season. They have 10 shutout victories out of 17 games on the year and their midfield is anchored by senior Heidi Rebollar in the center of the park.
East Bladen athletes book their trip to state
PENDER – East Bladen’s girl track team placed 4th and the boys placed 5th in the 1A Mid East Regional last Saturday. Junior hurdler Laila Smith won the 300mH with a time of 51.37 to book her ticket to the 1A State Championship in Greensboro this Saturday. She also took silver in the 100mH finals with a time of 18.56, with her teammates Ariel Cromartie and Lent Leya finishing behind her at third and fourth.
East Bladen postseason review
ELIZABETHTOWN- The 10th-seeded East Bladen Eagles defeated the 23rd-seeded Tarboro Vikings for a 10-0 victory in the first round of the NCHSAA 1A state playoffs last Tuesday. East Bladen right-hander Jake Futrell pitched a 1-hit shutout through five innings of work to help get the host over the line in a comfortable victory. Lee Barnes and Carson Gooden both led the Eagles in slugging with 2-for-3 performances at the plate, with each of them responsible for two RBI’s.
