South Lincoln County's basketball teams saw their respective seasons end recently in play-in games in Classes A and B.Feb. 15 in Ronan, the Chiefs beat the Libby Loggers, 77-44. Kolby Finley scored 16 points to lead four Ronan players in double figures, and the Chiefs built a 35-22 halftime lead to stay alive in the postseason.Finley hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Ronan (11-8) blew the game open. The Libby Wrestling Club finished its second weekend of the 2024 Western Montana Little Guy with great results. The Greenchain wrestlers showed improvements the coaches were hoping for when they finished the Making a Difference tournament hosted by Kalispell Wrestling Club.Saturday morning started early with the peewee division kicking off a day of wrestling. Boys thump Loggers in makeup game
The momentum for Columbia Falls is strong heading into the Western A Divisional tournament. Libby student Faith Erickson honored at Senior Night
Libby Logger Spirit Senior Faith Erickson was honored at Senior Night festivities Feb. 13 prior to the girls home basketball game against Columbia Falls.Erickson, the daughter of Liz and Josh Erickson, excelled in Special Olympics in the 50- and 100-yard dashes, softball throw and 500-meter bicycle during her four years of high school.Erickson, who accompanies many choir concerts with sign language for deaf and hearing-impaired people, also enjoys lifting weights and being with her friends in physical education class.She plans to remain in Libby working at local salons and gyms.According to her profile in the program, Erickson's advice to underclass comes from Proverbs 16:24, "Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."She appreciated the efforts of her teacher Mrs. Baney and Mrs. Barbour for making Special Olympics happen for her.She also is thankful for the support of her grandparents, friends and teachers as well as her siblings.

Gesture of sportsmanship lifts Libby's Freese
It’s been a tough season for the Libby Loggers girls basketball team, but the difficulties were tempered a bit Tuesday night against Columbia Falls.While the girls squad also celebrated Senior Night along with the pep band and cheer team, senior Ashley Freese made it on to the court.An injury sidelined Freese for her final basketball season, but thanks to an agreement between Libby head coach Todd Boehmler and Columbia Falls head coach Cary Finberg, she made it into the game briefly and scored a layup as the Wildcats stepped aside.Freese and her teammates hugged after her basket during the bittersweet moment.Prior to it, 15 Loggers seniors and their families were honored following the senior walk.Basketball team members included Freese, Ellie Andreessen, Addy Gilden-Vincent and Jossalyn White. Logger Spirit Senior Faith Erickson was also honored. In a great gesture of sportsmanship, the senior members of the Thompson Falls boys team were also recognized. They included Nick Tessier, Cael Thilmony, Braxton Dorscher, Justin Haagenson, Max Hannum, Kein Thomas and Theo Nygaard. The Lady Hawks 2023-24 team does not have any seniors.
