Stolen campaign signs recovered in Charlevoix Co.; woman charged
On Sept. 6, a Charlevoix County resident witnessed a woman taking political campaign signs off of a property near the village of Walloon Lake. The stolen campaign signs belonged to a candidate for President, a candidate for the United States Senate, a candidate for Charlevoix County Register of Deeds, a candidate for Emmet County Clerk, and a candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives. “Candidates for these positions and their supporters spend a large amount of money and time to put up signs. These charges may signify only a small dollar amount in value but the theft of campaign signs is contrary to democracy and must be addressed by the courts,” said County Prosecutor Kit Tholen. The woman was identified and charged, and the political campaign signs were recovered. She is scheduled for arraignment in the 90th District Court on Oct. 18.
