Steuben County history: This frontier preacher saw massive changes over his lifetime
James Brownson (or sometimes Bronson) was 19 years old when he arrived at Loon Lake in 1813. Here he, his father Salmon (or Solomon), and James’s brothers took up 400 acres of land (some say 1,200). Young James would spend a lot of time on that land, farming and timbering, besides operating a store.

🚧 Weekly Bridge Maintenance Update: I-86 Lane Closure in Fremont, NY
The time displayed is local to the original 511 traffic site in NewYork. Local transportation officials have announced scheduled maintenance work on a bridge located on I-86 in both directions near NY 21, Fremont. Commuters should exercise caution as the left shoulder will be closed to traffic. This construction is slated to begin on Monday, May 13th, 2024, and is expected to conclude on Friday, May 17th, 2024. The maintenance activities will take place from Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM each day. Motorists traveling in the area during these times should allow for extra travel time and consider alternative routes if possible to avoid delays caused by the shoulder closure.

Arkport Central School District Budget Vote and Board Election Set for May 21
On May 21, 2024, voters in the Arkport Central School District will decide on a proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year. The budget is set at $14,487,248, which is a 5.19% increase from the previous year, adding $715,201. This additional funding is intended to improve educational quality and sustain programs that were initially supported by federal pandemic relief funds.
