St. Elmo-Brownstown and Neoga combined for 27 hits in a big offensive battle as the Eagles topped the Indians 13-11 in eight innings in the second consolation semifinal game of the National Trail Conference softball tournament on Wednesday. SEB was able to put a run across the plate in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Neoga would answer in the bottom of the first and tie the game up 1-1 and then take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but five runs from the Eagles in the top of the third inning would swing the game’s momentum. Daisy Chandler led the inning off with a bunt single followed by a double by Jayna Ireland to put two runners in scoring position. Chandler would score on a wild pitch and Ireland advanced to third and then scored on a single by Taylor Claycomb as SEB took the lead back, 3-2. A single from Macey Sapp and a walk from Alivia Claycomb loaded the bases before T. Claycomb scored when Dezarae Morlan grounded into a fielder’s choice. Leading 4-2, SEB would get another run in on a wild pitch and then a ground out from Kelly Moss would score Morlan to put SEB up 6-2. Neoga got one run back in the bottom of the third to cut it to 6-3, but the Eagles offense kept working in the top of the fourth. A leadoff double from Ireland and a walk from T. Claycomb put runners at the corners before a double from Sapp brought Ireland in and edged the Eagles lead to 7-3. After two outs, SEB scored on a passed ball and then a fielder’s choice allowed a second run to come in as the Eagles went up 9-3. Neoga would put up a run in the fifth to cut it to 9-4, but then after holding SEB scoreless in the top of the sixth, would put up 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and then take the lead, 10-9. SEB kept battling in the seventh, as Dayana Haslett singled to lead off the inning. After one out, Ireland was intentionally walked followed by T. Claycomb drawing a walk to load the bases. A bout from Sapp scored Haslett, but Ireland was thrown out advancing home. The damage was done by the Eagles though as they tied the game up, 10-10. Neoga was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning sending the game into extra innings. SEB got things moving again right from the opening of the eighth inning, as Leila Wright drew a walk and Moss singled to put runners at first and second. D. Haslett reached base on a dropped third strike and with the bases loaded, Chandler drew a walk to bring a run in and give SEB the 11-10 lead. With the bases loaded, Neoga could not put Ireland on intentionally this time around and Ireland took advantage of that, driving a double to left field, scoring Camila Haslett and D. Haslett and pushing SEB’s lead to 13-10. The Eagles would put another baserunner on via walk, but a pair of outs pop fly outs ended the half inning. The Eagles would allow Neoga to score one run in the bottom of the eighth, but SEB held on to claim the 13-11 win. SEB moves to 2-13 on the season and will play in the Consolation Championship or Fifth Place game of the NTC Tournament on Friday at 4:15pm against Dieterich.

MATTOON (WCIA) — Lake Land pitched a shutout in a doubleheader sweep of Rend Lake Saturday afternoon, beating the Warriors 15-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second. With the wins, the Lakers improve to 40-12 on the season and 29-5 in conference play.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.3 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They won by a run and slipped past the Neoga Indians 4-3. That's two games straight that Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has won by just one run.

The Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota returns to Missouri and Illinois for a three-day weekend to cap off May and kick-start June. Spanning Thursday through Saturday, the Series will visit Doe Run Raceway (Doe Run, MO) on May 30, Coles County Speedway (Mattoon, IL) on May 31 and Wayne County Speedway (Wayne City, IL) on June 1.

South Central baseball kicked off the final week of the regular season with a 8-1 win at Neoga on Monday. The Cougars got things started off early as Callaway Smith led the game off with a single and a double by Colton Smith put two runners in scoring position. Ca. Smith would score on a dropped 3rd strike for South Central’s first run of the game and a single from Maddox Robb brought in Co. Smith for a 2-0 South Central lead. The Cougars and Indians would each go scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Cougars would drop five more runs on the scoreboard. A bases loaded walk drawn by Trevan Sidwell scored one run, Evan Hoover scored on a passed ball and Co. Smith scored on a groundout as the Cougar lead jumped to 5-0. South Central scored three more runs in the top of the 6th as courtesy runner Luke Shumate scored on a passed ball, Zane Montes scored on an RBI single from Ca. Smith and a sacrifice fly from Sidwell scores Max Magnus to edge the Cougar lead to 8-0. Neoga was able to put one run up in the bottom of the seventh but South Central closed out the 8-1 win. South Central is 14-13-1 on the season and will host Olney on Wednesday.

Ramsey softball picked up a 4-2 win at home over Neoga behind a 12 strikeout effort from pitcher Olivia Carroll on Wednesday. The game would go scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Macy Wright led off with a single to left field and Carroll followed with a single to left field as well. Both runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Bella Waggoner would then bring in Wright to score and advance Carroll to third with a single to shortstop as Ramsey grabbed a 1-0 lead. Melody Otto then came to the plate and a line drive single to right field would allow Carroll to score and Waggoner would advance to third as the Rams lead edged out to 2-0. One last run would come in for Ramsey during the inning as Waggoner scored on a passed ball and the Rams went up 3-0. Neoga would respond in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs and cut the Rams lead to 3-2. Things would get started again for the Rams in the bottom of the fifth with Wright at the plate. She, Carroll and Waggoner would draw three straight walks to load the bases. With Otto at the plat, Wright would score on a passed ball as the Rams lead was pushed to 4-2. Otto would foul off six pitches before a foul tip caught by the catcher ended the inning. Each team would remain scoreless through the sixth and seventh as the Rams would hold their lead to close out the 4-2 win. Ramsey is now 2-11 on the season and will be on the road today for an Egyptian Illini Conference game at Martinsville.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City softball grabbed an early lead and held it throughout the game to beat Ramsey in Egyptian Illini Conference action on Monday. The Bobcats put up five runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 5-0 lead before Ramsey would respond with three runs in the top of the second inning to cut the Bobcats lead to 5-3. Each team would be held scoreless over their next two at bats before CHBC broke into the scoring column again with a run in the bottom of the fourth to edge their lead to 6-3. Ramsey would get one more run across in the top of the fifth inning and CHBC would match it in the bottom of the fifth as the Bobcats led the Rams 7-4 at the end of the inning. Each team would remain scoreless for the remainder of the game as CHBC held their lead to take the 7-4 win. CHBC is now 3-11 on the season and will take on Dieterich at home today. Ramsey is 1-11 on the season and will be on the road today at Odin.

Altamont Lady Indians softball were unstoppable in the second inning, putting up 15 runs on the way to a 16-1 win over Neoga in National Trail Conference action on Monday. Both teams would go through the first inning being held scoreless, but the Altamont offense blew the game open in the bottom of the second inning, rolling to 15 runs in the inning for a huge 15-0 lead. They would tack on another run in the bottom of the third inning for a 16-0 lead before allowing a run to Neoga in the top of the fourth and finishing out the 16-1 run rule win. Altamont is now 11-6 on the season and will be at Effingham today in non-conference action.
