Chesapeake gets $4.4M grant to hire more firefighters
CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The city of Chesapeake just got a major boost to hire more firefighters. Thanks to a federal grant, the city will receive nearly $4.5 million. The funding was awarded through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program, designed to deliver funding directly to local fire departments to support staffing.
Herndon evacuations & closures could last through the night, Capt. warns
Approximately 20 households near the 200 block of Herndon Station Square have been evacuated and sites in the surrounding area are closed due to a discovery made this morning while executing a search warrant. According to Richmond BizSense, Kat McCay and Jessica Pilout have purchased Holy Mackerel Small Batch Beers at 700 Jordan Point Road, Prince George, VA 23860. After hearing Holy Mackerel was exploring a sale, McCay said she checked out the Jordan Point property and jumped on it. McCay and Pilout finalized their purchase of Holy Mackerel’s lease and hardware last month for an undisclosed amount.
Truck crash leaves trailer standing upright on I-64 in Virginia
A single vehicle trailer-trailer crash shut down part of I-64 West in New Kent for hours on Thursday. According to VSP, at about 9:30 a.m., the truck was heading westbound when, at the 200 mile marker, the raised bed hit the overhead traffic sign.
