    Ingredients:

    • 6-7 croissants, torn into chunks
    • ½ cup half-and-half
    • ½ cup unsweetened apple puree
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

    Apple Filling:

    • 4 large apples, peeled and diced
    • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 1 cup light brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1 ½ teaspoons cornstarch
    • 1 tablespoon water
    • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

    Icing:

    • ½ cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons half-and-half
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

    Directions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
    2. Arrange the torn croissants in the baking dish in an even layer. Set aside.
    3. To prepare the apple filling, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Add the diced apples and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water, then stir this into the apples. Add the lemon juice, stir again, and remove from heat.
    4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the half-and-half, apple puree, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
    5. Spread the cooked apples over the croissant layer. Evenly pour the egg mixture over the top.
    6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the casserole is set and golden on top.
    7. While it bakes, mix the powdered sugar, half-and-half, and vanilla extract to make the icing. Once the casserole has cooled for about 5 minutes, drizzle the icing over it and serve warm.

    Substitutions:

    • Swap croissants with challah or brioche for a slightly different texture.
    • Use almond milk in place of half-and-half for a lighter, dairy-free option.
    • Try maple syrup or honey in place of brown sugar for a natural sweetener.

    Storage Directions:

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat individual servings in the microwave or oven until warmed through. For longer storage, freeze portions and thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
