    Ingredients:

    • 30 unwrapped caramels
    • 2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
    • 1 (15 oz) box of chocolate cake mix
    • 1/2 cup melted butter
    • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
    • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional, but highly recommended)

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
    2. In a small saucepan, combine the caramels with 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk. Stir continuously over medium-low heat until the caramels have melted into a smooth, creamy sauce. Set aside for now.
    3. In a large bowl, mix the remaining evaporated milk with the chocolate cake mix and melted butter until a thick batter forms.
    4. Press 1 1/3 cups of the batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake this base layer for about 8 minutes.
    5. Remove the pan from the oven and drizzle the caramel mixture over the top. Evenly scatter the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) over the caramel layer.
    6. Drop the remaining batter in spoonfuls over the top, then gently smooth it out using the back of a spoon or a spatula.
    7. Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 13-16 minutes, or until the top is mostly set but still slightly soft.
    8. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting them into squares and serving.

    Substitutions:

No evaporated milk? Try using half-and-half or regular milk in its place, though the texture may be slightly different.

    • Prefer a nut-free version? Skip the pecans or walnuts and add extra chocolate chips, or even some sea salt for a salty-sweet combo.
    • Gluten-free option: Swap the chocolate cake mix for a gluten-free chocolate cake mix, and make sure to double-check your other ingredients for hidden gluten.

    Storage Tips:

Store these brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you prefer them chilled, they’ll last about a week in the refrigerator. You can also freeze individual brownies for up to 3 months – just thaw them at room temperature before enjoying.

These brownies are the ultimate crowd-pleaser, perfect for any occasion!
