A store that was part of the revitalization of an Eastside Tacoma shopping center six years ago is shutting down.

Discount retailer Big Lots, 1414 E. 72nd St. in the Tahoma Vista Shopping Center, is one of 12 stores in the chain slated for closure in Washington state.

The location was part of a multi-million dollar makeover in 2018 following the 2017 closure of Kmart, the center’s original anchor.

Big Lots, already at the site, moved into a portion of the former Kmart for a larger space, and a new Grocery Outlet took its former spot at the center.

Last June, the shopping center sold for $14.2 million to Tahoma Vista Venture LLC , affiliated with Rhino Investments of Henderson, Nevada.

Other Big Lots locations closing in the South Sound include stores at 1515 Marvin Rd. NE, Lacey, and 2815 Capital Mall Dr. SW, Olympia.

Closures also are planned in Bellingham, Burien, Covington, Everett, Kent, Lynnwood, Port Angeles, Renton and one of the retailer’s Vancouver, Washington, stores.

Store-closure sales are now advertised at the locations on Big Lots’ website.

The Big Lots in Lakewood and Puyallup and a second Tacoma location at 2401 N. Pearl St. will remain open, along with its Port Orchard store, among others.

According to its website, Big Lots has 26 locations in Washington state.

News agency Bloomberg reported Thursday that the Columbus-Ohio based chain was seeking more financing even after receiving a loan earlier this year for up to $200 million. The chain has nearly 1,400 stores, according to regulatory filings.
