Farmers in Maryland eligible for drought assistance
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Farmers in parts of Maryland who are facing drought conditions due to a lack of rain over the past summer are eligible for federal assistance. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the low-interest loans are available for farmers in Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Howard, Montgomery, and Washington counties.
Park officials warn about harmful algae in two Montgomery County lakes
High levels of blue-green algae were found in Lake Needwood and Lake Frank in Rockville, and visitors of the lake are being asked to avoid contact with the water. Officials said the algae, when grown in large amounts, produces toxins that can be harmful to people and animals. [DC News Now]

Power Temporarily Suspended at Shopping Center and Church Following Electrical Fire
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched to 8549 Piney Branch Rd in Silver Spring for a building fire on Saturday afternoon. According to Assistant Chief David Pazos, MCFRS crews located and extinguished an electrical fire in the electrical room serving a shopping center and church. “Pepco en route to determine extent of damage. Church, grocery store and offices affected.” Pazos shared at 3pm.

Two Restaurants and a Nail Spa Were Burglarized Friday Morning
On August 23, Takoma Park police responded to three commercial burglaries. Police have provided the following information about the burglaries:. 7000 block of Carroll Avenue: At approximately 6:33 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the Solar Nails Spa for a commercial burglary. The front glass door to the business was broken out. It is unknown at this time if property was stolen. Investigation continues. Case #240039795 This incident occurred in Ward 3.
