All too often, the general public in Easton has felt left out of preliminary discussions between land owners, developers, and town planners about how an important parcel in town will be used in the future. This was the case when many were surprised last year that the Poplar Hill Farm off Oxford Road plans called for 439 housing units. More recently, some in the community felt the town moved too quickly to approve residential housing to replace the site of the downtown Safeway store.

Easton man charged with sex abuse of minor
EASTON — An Easton man has been arrested for sexual abuse of a minor. According to a news release from the Easton Police Department, Carlos Perez Aldana, 36, was arrested Tuesday on charges of sex abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sex offense, false imprisonment and four counts of second-degree assault. The investigation, which was in reference to the possible sexual abuse of a child, was in partnership with the Talbot County Department of Social Services Child Protective Services. Police said it was determined through forensically interviewing a child at the Talbot County Children’s Advocacy Center that Perez Aldana had sexually assaulted the child in May. Police said the child was able to get away from Perez and told adults, who reported it to Easton police. After being arrested, Perez Aldana was transferred to the Talbot County Detention Center.
Oxford Considers Live Streaming Upcoming Town Commissioner Election
OXFORD, Md. - Less than a week before Election Day, the town of Oxford in Talbot County is considering a unique way to enhance transparency in the voting process. Commissioner candidate Josh Coder sent a letter to the town requesting the presence of poll watchers. However, the town has stated that such a provision is not included in their charter.
Easton Man Charged with Multiple Counts of Possessing Child Porn
EASTON, MD - The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Easton man on eight counts of possessing child pornography following a months-long investigation. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Easton Police first received a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children cyber tip in April of 2024 in regards to Travis Schwaninger, 42, of Easton. Easton Police determined the suspect lived outside their jurisdiction and the investigation was turned over to the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office.
