Giving back in Fairbanks with local cyclists
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Over a hundred cyclists turned out for the Salty’s Gives Back fundraiser on Saturday, to further show Fairbanks has a heart of gold. “It’s the Pwerhouse, Lavelle’s Taphouse and Salty’s on Second,” listed Pwerhouse founding coach Jenny Gilbertson, “and we bring all of our cycling bikes down right in front of Salty’s and we raise money for over 40 different causes and charities, mostly local to Fairbanks.”

Searches underway for 2 missing men on Chena and Yukon rivers
A search continued Sunday on the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks where a man went missing in the water Friday, a day before a Yukon River boater was reported overdue. With prayers and Gwich’in singing, the family of Elia Ansaknok gathered Sunday morning to resume searching for his body in the Chena River. Elia’s uncle, David Solomon of Copper Center led family members in song, as Fairbanks police and Alaska State Troopers launched three boats yesterday at Graehl Landing to dredge the river below the pedestrian bridge where Ansaknok went into the river.
UAF Hockey add seven heading to the end of the off season
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -The Nanooks Hockey Team signed seven new student-athletes from some of the top junior leagues across North America. First up is Caelum Dick, a right shot 5-10 defenseman who played for the United State Hockey League’s (USHL) Dubuque Fighting Saints from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Dick played in 116 regular season games for the Fighting Saints and tallied six goals and 21 assists for 27 points and a playoff goal.

After a bout of COVID derailed Isaac Updike’s Olympic dreams at the U.S. Trials last month, his steeplechase performance Saturday night in Los Angeles provided some salve. The 32-year-old pro runner from Ketchikan closed fast at Sound Running’s 2024 Sunset Tour to blow away the field, clock a season’s-best 8 minutes, 19.11 seconds and win by 2.57 seconds.
