Al Pacino’s ‘Godfather’ contract sold at auction for thousands

It was an offer he couldn't refuse - Al Pacino's contract for " The Godfather Part II" has sold at auction.

The two-page document - which went for $31k - represents a significant moment in film history.

Dated May 12, 1972, it saw the actor sign on to play Michael Corleone in what is widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made.

The contract, titled "Re: The Godfather Sequel - Al Pacino," was drafted between Chal Productions and Francis Ford Coppola Productions.

It detailed Pacino’s agreement to reprise his role as Michael Corleone for $500,000—a substantial increase from his $35,000 salary for the original film.

Pacino also secured a 10% share of the film's profits.

Boston-based RR Auction said: "Boldly signed by Pacino, this contract reflects the actor's growing recognition and commitment to a sequel that would become one of the most acclaimed films in cinema history.

Bobby Livingston, Executive Vice President at RR Auction, said: "The sale of this contract underscores the enduring legacy of 'The Godfather' trilogy. It's a privilege to handle such an important piece of Hollywood history and to see it valued by collectors worldwide."

Pacino's portrayal of Michael Corleone earned him an Oscar nomination and solidified his reputation as one of the most compelling actors of his era.
