Sylacauga High School has been named the number one high school in Talladega County for 2024 by U.S. News & World Report. Panning out a bit, SHS is ranked as the 52nd best high school in the state, placing it in the top 13.5 percent, based on a score of 77.55 percent.

Alpine man charged with domestic violence
An Alpine man is facing felony domestic violence charges after allegedly choking his fiancee. James Darryll Lightsey, 34, was arrested by Talladega County Sheriff’s Deputies June 1 and was, according to jail records, being held on a $5,000 bond. He was still in jail Wednesday afternoon.
Scanner taken from used car dealership
The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at a used car dealership on Mountain View Road in Sylacauga, according to an incident and offense report. The break-in occurred at B&L Automotive sometime between Sunday night (last weekend) and the next afternoon. According to Sgt. Al Crow, the burglar broke into the office and stole only one item, a Snap-On Triton D-10 Scanner valued at $6,500.
