Tallahassee became title town over the weekend as five Big Bend track and field athletes brought home individual state titles .

With the Class 3A and 4A State Championships taking place in Jacksonville at the University of North Florida, local athletes from Chiles, Leon, Lincoln and Rickards competed, with the Trojans finishing highest in 3A, placing fourth, and Chiles coming in third in 4A.

In 3A, Bryce Davis started things by winning the shot put state championship with a 17.64-meter mark, and he followed that up with a second-place finish in the discus. Lincoln's Kendrick Scott Jr . took home the discus gold with a throw of 52.91 meters.

On the track, Leon's Patrick Koon set a new state record in the 3200-meter race, for the second straight year. Breaking his own 8:58.83 record set last season, Koon posted an 8:56.92 to win his third straight 3200-meter state championship. The Leon senior also finished second in the 1600-meter race with a time of 4:08.41.

In the 4A meet, Chiles Jason Atwood took home a state championship in the discus, recording a 59.67-meter mark to win the gold.

Another meet record was set, this time on the track in 4A as Chiles senior Cade Swart posted a 51.93 time in the 400-meter hurdles to claim gold and set the new meet record, last held by Kai Evans of Lake Minneol, set in 2023. Swart also finished second in the 110-meter hurdle race, posting a 14.22 time, just narrowly missing the gold as first place posted a 14.10.
