Preston wants to bring accessibility to property appraiser’s office

    By Ken Preston,

    2024-08-06

The role of the property appraiser is pivotal to the community.  It affects everything from local taxes to property sales and community development.  As the election for property appraiser approaches, it's crucial to consider a candidate who is committed to working with and for the citizens.

Here are a few reasons why I am the best candidate for Property Appraiser:

    • I will bring a wealth of experience, expertise, and congenial spirit to the position of Property Appraiser.  With my experience in the property appraisal field and my management/supervision skills, I am equipped to handle the complexities of this role. I possess the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective leader.
    • I am committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and efficiency in property valuations. I will address any biases and inconsistencies and ensure that all property owners are treated equitably, and their properties are assessed accurately . Transparency is crucial in building trust. I propose an open-door policy where property owners can easily access and understand the appraisal process.
    • I will be more hands-on and approachable. I’m committed to serving the community and plan to implement more community involvement and education. As a long-time resident of Leon County, I understand the unique characteristics and needs of our community. I am dedicated to fostering community trust through open lines of communication and responsiveness. Recognizing the importance of community input, I will host regular public forums and feedback sessions where property owners will have the opportunity to voice their concerns, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the appraisal process and their rights. I will provide insight into how the Property Appraiser’s office can better serve you.

My vision for the future is a Property Appraiser’s office that is not only transparent, efficient and accurate but also proactive in addressing the needs of our growing community. We need mobile offices, kiosks, and satellite offices to better meet taxpayer’s needs.

This will increase accessibility, as every resident may not have the means or time to visit the main office. This approach will help bridge the gap for those who might be underserved due to distance or mobility issues, as well as foster stronger connections between the office and the community, enhancing trust and satisfaction.

I humbly ask for your support in the upcoming election. Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable community where everyone feels valued and supported.
