An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured this week after a car hit him on his electric scooter.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the boy was riding his scooter Tuesday evening on the sidewalk on Fred George Road approaching Woodbriar Lane when he "suddenly crossed into a crosswalk directly in front of (a) sedan."

"The driver of the sedan attempted to stop but was unable to in time, and the front of the sedan collided with the scooter," FHP said.

The boy was transferred to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare with a "serious injury to his upper leg."

FHP was assisted on scene by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, the Tallahassee Fire Department and Leon County EMS.

The Highway Patrol does not identify people in its traffic crash press releases.
