The Legal Aid Foundation's Mobile Law Clinic is next headed to Tallahassee's Smith-Williams Services Center to offer free legal counsel to Leon County's Promise Zone and low-income residents.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development describes Promise Zones as high poverty areas, where local governments partner with the federal government. In Tallahassee, this area includes South City and Frenchtown.

Residents who qualify must sign up by 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event, which is Sept. 11.

They will have the opportunity to meet with a volunteer attorney for a 20-minute free legal consultation on the following matters:

    • Adoption
    • Child support
    • Custody/visitation
    • Divorce
    • Landlord/tenant issues
    • Paternity
    • Property
    • Probate
    • Wills

The event is made possible by the Promise Zone Grant, established over 50 years ago by the Tallahassee Bar Association, which authorizes the Legal Aid Foundation to offer these free services.
