Florida A&M cornerback Kendall Bohler is HBCU Legacy Bowl bound.
On Thursday, the annual pre-draft showcase game for HBCU football players announced Bohler as one of its first selections.
Bohler joins Grambling State quarterback Myles Crawley, Virginia Union running back Jada Byers, and Howard wide receiver Kenny Gallop Jr. as the HBCU Legacy Bowl’s first selections, which began last Thursday, Sept. 19.
Bohler is the first defensive player off the board for the 2025 HBCU Legacy Bowl.
The fourth annual HBCU Legacy Bowl will be played on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at Yulman Stadium on Tulane University’s campus in New Orleans.
A good showing for Bohler could lead to NFL opportunities. For example, former FAMU receiver Xavier Smith won the HBCU Legacy Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player award in 2023. Smith is now a receiver and return man for the Los Angeles Rams .
Bohler, who transferred to FAMU from fellow Football Championship Subdivision school Mercer in 2021, ascended as one of the nation’s top cornerbacks last season.
The Orlando native was a shutdown corner for the Rattlers during their Black College Football National Championship run , finishing with 39 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and one interception, which helped lift FAMU over Howard in its 30-26 Celebration Bowl win last December.
This season, Bohler is projected to be one of the FCS’ top cornerbacks, placing on rankings by Sports Illustrated and HERO Sports .
Before the season, the graduate student Bohler was selected as a Boxtorow HBCU All-American and All-Southwestern Athletic Conference First Team. The Reese’s Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl also placed Bohler on their watchlists.
Through four games, Bohler has 12 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup for the FCS Coaches Poll 21st-ranked Rattlers .
Originally scheduled to play Alabama A&M at Bragg Memorial Stadium this Saturday, FAMU’s Week 5 SWAC opener was postponed to Friday, Nov. 29, to prepare for Hurricane Helene . Helene is expected to become a destructive Category 3 hurricane as it approaches Tallahassee and Florida’s Big Bend, with landfall expected late Thursday.
FAMU football (2-2) will return to action at Alabama State (1-2) next Saturday, Oct. 5. Alabama State plays on the road at Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach for its SWAC opener this Saturday.
