Big Bend road deaths: Motorcyclist dies in Tallahassee, woman dies in Madison County crash

A motorcyclist was hit and killed Monday evening in south Tallahassee, and a passenger in a car on Interstate 10 died that same evening in a separate wreck, according to area law enforcement reports.

Leon County sheriff's deputies responded to the motorcycle crash around 6:15 p.m., near the intersection of Capital Circle Southwest and Southern Drive, LCSO spokesperson Shonda Knight said.

Both lanes were closed while law enforcement worked to clear the scene. The driver of a car involved in the crash was injured but is expected to survive, Knight said.

As of Tuesday morning, LCSO couldn't provide the victim's name or age because deputies were having trouble contacting the motorcyclist's next of kin.

About an hour earlier, a 78-year-old woman died in a crash on a section of I-10 in Madison County. According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, the woman was a passenger of a car that hydroplaned into another car that was parked on the shoulder of the highway.

"A heavy rainstorm in the area caused roadway visibility to diminish, along with creating standing water on the roadway," FHP said. The driver of the hydroplaning vehicle "failed to reduce speed in the inclement weather as (the car) traveled through the standing water."

The woman was pronounced dead on scene, and another passenger in the car was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the news release. No one in the parked car was injured.
