City Commission Makes Appointments to Boards, Committees

Provided below are the appointments made by the Tallahassee City Commission to various boards and committees at the June 19th meeting.

Florida League of Cities Board

The City Commission selected Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox to serve as the nominee for the 2024-2025 Florida League of Cities Board of Director’s seat for the Ten Most Populous Cities.

Airport Advisory Committee

The City Commission approved the following appointments to the Airport Advisory Committee:

Seat #1 – Commissioner Porter’s Appointee – Katrina Tuggerson
Seat #2 – Commissioner Williams-Cox’s Appointee – William Hudson
Seat #3 – Commissioner Matlow’s Appointee – Bill Peebles
Seat #4 – Commissioner Richardson’s Appointee – Neil Rambana
Seat #5 – Mayor Dailey’s Appointee – Monesia Brown

The Airport Advisory Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City Commission and the Tallahassee International Airport Management on issues presented to the committee related to the economic impact of the Airport. The Committee’s function is to monitor the City’s Strategic Plan objectives and advise the City Commission on matters related to the objectives, identify additional Strategic Plan objectives that may be considered by the City Commission, and other reviews and advisements as requested by the City Commission.

Planning Commission

The City Commission approved the Mayor’s appointments to the Planning Commission: Seat #1 – Blake Renfro and Seat #2 – Christian Minor.

The Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission was duly established by virtue of an interlocal agreement dated September 26, 1967, between the County of Leon and the City of Tallahassee. The agreement designates the Planning Commission as the entity responsible for comprehensive area-wide planning with the City of Tallahassee and Leon County. The Planning Commission is also the duly designated Local Planning Agency and Land Development Regulation Commission pursuant to Chapter 163, Florida Statutes. The duties and responsibilities of the Planning Commission are set forth in the Interlocal Agreement, the Bylaws, and the Ordinance of the City of Tallahassee and Leon County.

Commission on the Status of Women & Girls

The City Commission ratifed Commissioner Porter’s appointment of Kristellys Estanga to fill Seat 5, on the Commission on the Status of Women & Girls Ratification (CSWG).

The CSWG is an advisory committee that provides input and recommendations to the City Commission and Board of County Commissioners, as needed, on approaches with which to address issues affecting the women and girls in Tallahassee, Leon County. The Committee’s goal is promoting awareness on issues that affect women and girls in the community, including but not limited to discrimination, disparate experiences of diverse women and girls, employment, education, services, health, economic security, access to justice, freedom from violence and more.

TMH Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Inc. (TMH) has recently voted to elect three individuals to the TMH Board of Directors. The Lease Agreement between the City of Tallahassee and TMH and the TMH Bylaws provide that elections of directors are subject to confirmation by the City Commission and that, if no action is taken within 60 days after receipt of the proposed changes, they shall be deemed approved by the City.

The City Commission confirmed the election of Narlin Beaty, M.D., Fran Close, Ph.D., and Mark Wheeler, M.D., to the Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Inc., Board of Directors.

Architectural Review Board

The City Commission approved the appointment of Doug Shuler to the Architectural Review Board.

The purpose of the Architectural Review Board (ARB) is to preserve the distinctive character of the historical areas and other specific structures and landmarks identified by the City or County Commissions. To accomplish this purpose, the ARB shall approve, disapprove, or require modification to plans for buildings to be erected, constructed, altered, renovated, moved or razed, as they apply to the Historic Preservation Overlay Zoning District as described in Section 10-319(a)(2), Tallahassee Land Development Code. It may also assist the Planning Commission in determining areas suitable for the location into the Overlay Zoning District.
