Heading into the 2024 college football season, many believe the strongest teams are in the SEC or Big Ten conferences.

According to ESPN's Football Power Index , no ACC or Big 12 team is ranked in the top 10. Florida State is the only team from these conferences in the top 10 in percentage to win it all, with the Seminoles holding the No. 10 spot with a 2.5% chance. The rest of the top 10 teams are from the SEC, Big Ten or are independent (Notre Dame).

ESPN's Paul Finebaum was asked if any team from the ACC has the potential to win it all. He expressed his opinion that he doesn't believe there is a team in the conference that is poised to achieve that, including the Clemson Tigers, Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes.

"I really don't see an ACC club in a strong position," Finebaum said. "I think Clemson is okay. I think Miami, Florida State, but I don't see a dominant team there."

Clemson has been one of the top teams since the College Football Playoff began in 2014. However, the Tigers haven't made the playoffs since 2020. Last season, Florida State had an undefeated regular season and won the ACC Championship Game. However, it felt snubbed after being left out of the playoffs, leading to a lot of controversy.

The expanded playoff is designed to provide more teams with an opportunity to win the national championship. Only time will tell if the Tigers or Seminoles can overcome the challenge and emerge as champions.
