Miami Hurricanes not backing off pursuit of top-60 FSU commit Myron Charles: “I have a great relationship with the whole staff”

Port Charlotte (Fla.) 2025 four-star defensive lineman Myron Charles may have committed to Florida State last month, but Miami isn’t backing down for the No. 58 overall prospect and No. 9 Florida recruit in the On300.

The Hurricanes are continuing to push for the 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive tackle and are squarely in his recruiting picture, Charles told CaneSport . Charles took official visits to Miami, Florida, Florida State and Texas last month before committing to the Seminoles June 28, although his other finalists have continued to push for him. The four-star prospect was back on campus for the Hurricanes’ end-of-summer recruiting cookout this weekend.

Charles said he may shut his recruitment down sometime this fall but isn’t yet certain when. And he wants to continue communicating with Miami for the time being.

“I have a great relationship with the whole staff: coach Joe (Salave’a) , coach (Jason) Taylor, ” Charles said. “(The staff) has been recruiting me since my freshman year. The relationship there is huge, especially with my parents. My parents really enjoy it here. There are people I really enjoy.”

What do his parents like so much about Miami?

“The coaches,” Charles said. “The connections there are huge.”

Charles said Miami’s recruiting approach hasn’t changed since his commitment to Florida State, and the Hurricanes haven’t pestered him about his pledge to the Seminoles. He said the staff has taken a “show me, don’t tell me” approach to why he should ultimately end up a Hurricane, and he didn’t want to lose his relationships with Taylor and Salave’a. Head coach Mario Cristobal has been heavily involved in his recruitment as well.

“It’s just the type of man (Cristobal) is,” Charles said. “Caring about the program, caring about his players. You can tell he definitely wants the best for his staff, his players, everybody, and that’s just the way he is and the type of man he is. He’s a good role model.”

He said he thinks Miami, Florida and Texas are “all kind of lumped together” in the fight to flip him but still feels good about his pledge to Florida State. FSU’s coaching staff stability and on-field success the last two seasons, along with longtime defensive line coach Odell Haggins , were large reasons why he committed to the Seminoles last month.

Florida State was one of the first programs to offer Charles and maintained consistent contact after initially pulling the trigger. He’s visited Miami, Florida and Florida State three times each this year.

CaneSport’s Take

I expect Miami to have a real shot to flip Charles this fall if the Hurricanes continue to push the way they’re currently pushing, although they’ll have to slowly chip away over the next several months. A strong start to the season should help Miami’s chances as well.
