Tallmadge Rite Aid will close in latest round of pharmacy chain's cuts

The Tallmadge Rite Aid has joined the growing list of pharmacies closing throughout Ohio .

According to a store associate, the last day for the store will be Aug. 18. The pharmacy will close earlier, with customers' prescriptions being transferred starting July 9 to the Walgreens at 840 Brittain Road in Akron, according to a sign on the store's door at 45 East Ave.

Remaining Rite Aid pharmacies in the area include three in Akron, one in Barberton and one in Cuyahoga Falls, according to Rite Aid's website.

Rite Aid, which is headquartered in Philadelphia, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023. The company is facing lawsuits alleging the company helped fuel the country’s opioid epidemic by knowingly filling prescriptions for painkillers that did not meet legal requirements.

Several larger chain pharmacies have struggled in recent years. CVS has shuttered hundreds of locations , and Walgreens recently announced it would close underperforming stores throughout the country.
