THE SET-UP August tornadoes are rare in Nebraska and Iowa because of the jet stream's position in the far northern US into southern Canada. This keeps the wind energy for tornadoes focused in the Dakotas/Minnesota/Canadian prairie states and away from Nebraska and Iowa. Occasionally, the jet stream does dive south enough to get tornadoes, like what happened in 1928, but this is somewhat rare.

Nebraska Rural Poll seeking researchers to develop question sets for annual survey
Lincoln, Neb. —The Nebraska Rural Poll is extending a new opportunity for University of Nebraska researchers to collect data about the perceptions of rural Nebraskans. Beginning this fall the Rural Poll will offer researchers across the University system, as well as those in non-profits and state and federal agencies, the opportunity to develop question sets about issues important to rural Nebraskans, which will then be included in the 2025 Poll.
Outdoor portion of Nebraska Lottery Concert Series kicks off Wednesday
Wednesday night music will fill the air in the Nebraska State Fair’s TD Landing Concert Stage, all thanks to hardworking state fair personnel who are making it happen.
