‘Ghost Town’ program set for this Sunday at Dysart Historical Center
DYSART – Have you heard of Butterville, Helena, or Monticello, all former Tama County communities? Come to the Dysart Historical Center this Sunday, June 23, to hear historian Joyce Wiese share stories about Tama County’s many ‘Ghost Towns’ and post offices. The program will begin at 2 p.m. and will be followed by refreshments.
Irvine Prairie Walkabout set for July 9
IRVINE PRAIRIE – Bring along a chair and join Women, Land & Legacy from Benton and Tama counties for their upcoming event, “Irvine Prairie Walkabout.” It will be held on Tuesday, July 9 at 1174 55th Street in rural Dysart. The location is three miles north of IA 8 on County Road V-37, then 1¾ miles east on 55th Street. This event will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Since this is an outdoor event, a rain date is scheduled for July 11 at the same time and location. “Pasture-appropriate” footwear, long pants and long sleeves are recommended for uneven terrain and tall vegetation.
Tama County Legion and Auxiliary to meet
ELBERON – The Tama County American Legion and Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday, June 25, at Elberon. There will be a potluck lunch at noon followed by a flag disposal ceremony. After the flag disposal ceremony, a joint meeting will be held. We will have a report on Government Day at the meeting. Also info on the Iowa Veterans Home Picnic to be held at IVH on August 3.

Bobby's Grocery & BBQ turns to the community to help keep the doors open
DYSART, Iowa (KCRG) - A small grocery store in a Tama County community is weeks away from shutting down. Now the owners are turning to residents to save their store. The owners of Bobby’s Grocery and BBQ in Dysart said they’re struggling to stay open. They’re asking their neighbors to help raise $75,000 to try and keep the doors open.
