If you’re looking to add some personality and charm to your space, DIY wall decor is a perfect solution.

Blank walls can make a room feel unfinished and lackluster. I have a couple of walls that need some serious help. So, as I often do, I did a little research and checked out Pinterest. I so often have decor block and I need inspiration.

And boy did I find some great ideas!

I found some very creative DIY wall decor ideas, that could transform your blank walls into a stunning focal point in any room. Whether you prefer a gallery wall, stenciled designs, or floating shelves, there’s a project to suit every style and skill level. So grab your tools, unleash your creativity, and start decorating your walls today!

Here are a few creative ideas to inspire your next home empty wall project.

    Create a Gallery Wall

A gallery wall is an excellent way to display a collection of your favorite art, photographs, and other mementos. Start by gathering frames in various sizes and styles. Lay them out on the floor to plan the arrangement before hanging them on the wall. Mix and match different textures, colors, and shapes to create an eye-catching display. You can also add decorative elements like mirrors or small shelves to enhance the visual interest. I would love to do a wall of vintage mirrors.

What I love about the gallery above is you can change out the pictures for the seasons. Print your own pictures and change them out to your liking.

Try Your Hand at Wall Stenciling

I love this idea and there are so many patterns to use. Wall stenciling is a fantastic way to add a custom pattern or design to your walls without the commitment of wallpaper. The bee trellis stencil is just the right touch for this wall.

Choose a stencil pattern that complements your room’s decor and paint it on the wall using a stencil brush or sponge. This technique allows you to get creative with colors and designs, and it can be easily changed if you want a new look in the future.

    Install Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are both functional and decorative. They provide a space to display books, plants, and other decorative items while adding depth and dimension to your walls. You can find floating shelves in various materials, such as wood, metal, or glass, to match your room’s aesthetic. Arrange them in a symmetrical pattern or create an asymmetrical design for a more modern look.

I love how this floating shelf idea above fills a small area and isn’t overbearing. A perfect small job that anyone could do with simple floating shelves.

    Craft a DIY Tapestry

A DIY tapestry can bring texture and warmth to a blank wall. You can make a simple tapestry using fabric, yarn, macramé techniques, or an old rug as shown above. Choose materials and colors that complement your existing decor. Hang your handmade tapestry above a bed, sofa, or console table to create a focal point in the room.

    Display a Collection of Plates

If you have a collection of beautiful plates, consider using them as wall decor. Arrange the plates in a pattern that suits your style, whether it’s a symmetrical grid or a more freeform arrangement. Plate hangers make it easy to secure them to the wall without damaging the plates. This unique decor idea adds a touch of elegance and can be a great conversation starter.

This has to be my favorite way to decorate in an area since I love to thrift plates. I recently did this with pieces from my mom and my mother in laws china. I used the standard plate wall hangers but I have seen these also that would work.

    Design a Chalkboard Wall

A chalkboard wall is both fun and functional. Use chalkboard paint to cover an entire wall or just a section. There is also magnetic paint that works well too. This interactive wall can serve as a space for notes, doodles, or even a rotating display of artwork. Plus, it’s easy to update whenever inspiration strikes.

This command center is perfect for the kitchen, office, or school room. It is magnetic by using a piece of metal and then painting it with chalkboard paint. There is always that empty wall space that goes down the pantry or fridge that would be perfect for this idea.

Just a Little Wallpaper Will Do

No art is necessary when all you need is just a little bit of wallpaper for this small area. It’s perfect for someone who just doesn’t think they can hang wallpaper. It’s also a cost-effective way to decorate a wall since you would probably only need one roll of wallpaper.

    Rule of Thumb

Hang pictures at eye level approximately 60″ to 63″ above the floor to the center of the picture. Use this as a starting point. When hanging two or more artworks together in a grouping, it’s best to position them 3″ to 6″ apart.

I hope this small collection of wall decor ideas inspired you to go and do your own DIY project. I would love to hear about your wall designs in the comments.
