Police have arrested a Tampa man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 46-year-old man in North Tampa this week.

Dontarvis Singleton, 36, was arrested Thursday, three days after Tampa police say he shot the man in the 1000 block of East Poinsettia Avenue. Singleton faces charges of first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and drug possession.

Police have not released the name of the man who was shot. Singleton and the man knew each other and had “previous altercations,” according to a Tampa Police Department news release.

A police spokesperson did not immediately respond Thursday to a request for the man’s name. Singleton’s arrest affidavit was not immediately available.

Police responded at 1 p.m. Monday and found the man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

Homicide detectives soon identified Singleton, 36, as the suspect in the murder and learned a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban was used during the homicide. Early Thursday, police stopped the SUV in the 8700 block of Hyalea Road and arrested Singleton, who was driving the SUV alone.

Singleton was booked at Orient Road Jail and the vehicle was impounded. He was being held Thursday without bond at the Falkenburg Road Jail, records show.

”Our hope is this quick arrest will provide a small sense of comfort for the family and loved ones of the victim,” police Chief Lee Bercaw said in the news release.
