    Rays bullpen makes a mess, and causes a scene, in loss to Phillies

    PHILADELPHIA — There was no debate the Rays had to do something to try to boost their offense, and manager Kevin Cash’s shake-up of the lineup produced some positive results.

    But indicative of their inconsistent play this season, the Rays bullpen, which has been a remarkable strength, faltered badly in a 9-4 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday.

    Tied 4-4 in the eighth, Richard Lovelady got the Rays in trouble, allowing a one-out walk and then a double.
