A St. Petersburg police officer was fired for making a racist remark to another officer while on duty, the department announced on Thursday.

On April 18, then-officer Brent Clark made a “racially insensitive comment” to an officer while they worked at the evidence processing station inside the agency’s downtown headquarters, according to a news release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.

The officer shared Clark’s comment with other officers, a supervisor was informed and the agency’s Office of Professional Standards investigated the incident. After the investigation, Chief Anthony Holloway convened a Command Review Board earlier this week to judge the allegations against Clark.

The board found his conduct “unbecoming of a police officer,” according to the news release.

Clark, who had worked as a St. Petersburg police officer since 2011, was fired from the agency on Wednesday. He had been assigned to the traffic section.

No further details were immediately available.
