GAINESVILLE — It would be easy to view the Florida Gators’ 33-20 home loss to Texas A&M as rock bottom for the Billy Napier era.

And it might be. His job was — to put it politely — in jeopardy before Saturday. It’s fair to wonder when the clock will run out.

But if Napier remains the coach next week against Mississippi State and past the open date after that, it’s possible, if not probable, things will get worse for Florida (1-2, 0-1 SEC).

The Gators were overpowered by a perennial underachiever with a first-year coach (Mike Elko).
