Why USF joining Pac-12 expansion was worth considering and declining

USF made the logical choice Monday, choosing to stay in the American Athletic Conference instead of leaving for the Pac-12.

The Bulls have shown enough potential (a bowl and NIT appearance last season) and off-field commitment ($340 million on-campus football stadium) to earn interest from the revamped, former power league. That’s encouraging for the program’s future.

But for the present, joining what’s left of the “Conference of Champions” made no sense.
