Hillsborough County schools cancel classes as Helene approaches

Hillsborough County schools announced they will cancel classes and extracurricular activities both Wednesday and Thursday because of Tropical Storm Helene.

District officials said they wanted to keep students and staff safe, while also having time for schools to prepare for possible flooding and high winds. They anticipated some schools will be used as shelters, as well.

The district has not made a decision yet regarding Friday operations.
