Pinellas County reopens barrier islands to residents, business owners

Pinellas County officials announced Saturday afternoon they had reopened access to all beach and barrier island residents, business owners and employees.

To enter, you need a barrier island re-entry permit, which is something residents usually get before hurricane season, or photo ID with reasonable proof of residence or business. This can include a vehicle registration, a property tax or utility bill, a work ID or a pay stub.

Remaining closed: The north and southbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard from 150th Avenue (Tom Stuart Causeway) south to 140th Avenue in Madeira Beach, and the north and southbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard from the Park Boulevard Bridge to 196th Avenue (Tiki Gardens County Park) in Indian Shores.

Those entering the islands are advised that the power is out, and traffic lights and signals are not functioning. Officials ask that each intersection is treated as a four-way stop sign. Further openings will be evaluated Sunday.
