BOSTON — Soreness in his lower left leg from a hit by pitch Friday night may keep Rays infielder Jose Caballero from getting back on the field for Sunday’s final game.

But when the season ends, he is hoping to stand alone atop the American League stolen base leaders.

Entering play Saturday, Caballero had 44 steals, three ahead of Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez and four up on the Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm (who had 22 with Miami and 18 with New York).

“Hopefully, they don’t steal,” Caballero said.
