The latest: Hurricane Milton developed Sunday afternoon off the coast of Mexico. Milton is set to move east through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida and is projected to strengthen into a major hurricane before landfall. Tampa Bay is squarely in Milton’s path.

Forecasters say there’s an increasing chance of life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds across the Florida peninsula.

Hurricane conditions are possible along nearly all of Florida’s Gulf Coast. Tropical storm-force winds may reach land as soon as Tuesday evening, and Milton is set to make landfall on Wednesday.
