Tampa stabbing suspect jumps off Wesley Chapel overpass, police say

A man wanted in the stabbing of a woman in Tampa was seriously hurt Thursday when he jumped off a Wesley Chapel overpass onto Interstate 275 as law enforcement officers closed in on him, police said.

Thomas Edward Sapp, 31, was hospitalized after jumping from the overpass at County Line Road and faces an attempted murder charge, according to the Tampa Police Department.

The chain of events that led to the incident began late Wednesday, when Tampa police responded to a stabbing call at the Trails at Hunters Village Apartments at 8500 Hunters Village Road.
