Black history museum would be built in Tampa historic church
The Tampa Housing Authority and the Tampa Bay History Center announced on Monday a joint effort to curate the first Black history museum in Tampa. The museum would be located at the former St. James Episcopal Church, which has been restored to its historic structural origins, in the Encore neighborhood.

Lakeland airport lands its first commercial airline in over a decade
The Lakeland Linder International Airport is offering commercial flights for the first time in more than 10 years. Avelo Airlines now provides nonstop service between the Polk County airport and Tweed-New Haven Airport in southern Connecticut. Avelo is the first and only airline offering this service, according to a media release.
Arrest made in death of man found in Tampa ditch, deputies say
A Tampa man is facing multiple charges after another man was found dead in a ditch earlier this month, deputies announced Monday. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said Dayhan Ruenes Vinet, 32, was arrested Friday in the death of Yalexander Jimenez Felipe, 47, who was found in a ditch near East Chelsea Street and Racheal Falls Drive in Tampa with upper body trauma early on the morning of June 4. Jimenez Felipe was pronounced dead on the scene.
